Is Smiling Friends Over? Creators Say the Show Will End After Season 3

Fans of Smiling Friends now know the show will end with its third season. Creators Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack announced that the popular animated comedy will not continue beyond Season 3.

Why It’s Ending

In a video message shared online by the show’s creators, they explained that the decision to stop after Season 3 was their own choice, not something forced by the network Adult Swim. They said they felt both burnt out from years of work and proud of what they had made, and they didn’t want the show to continue if they could not give it their best.

The creators said they prefer to end the series while it is still strong rather than keep it going just for the sake of more seasons.

No Season 4 or 5

Earlier reports had even suggested Smiling Friends might be renewed for Seasons 4 and 5 after its success. However, the creators confirmed that those plans are now cancelled, and no new main seasons are coming.

Two Final Episodes in April

There is some good news for fans. Two additional episodes from Season 3, which were already made but not yet aired, are set to premiere on April 12, 2026 on Adult Swim. These episodes are part of Season 3 and not a separate finale, but they will be the last new Smiling Friends episodes for now.

What This Means for the Future

Though the regular series is ending, the creators left the door open just a little. They said that in the future they might return with a special, movie, or new idea connected to the show, but nothing is planned yet.

Fans Reacted Strongly

Fans online were surprised and emotional about the news. Many said they feel sad the show is ending, but also understand the creators’ decision to go out on their own terms.
