As
part of its #1 Million Lives initiative, the company underscores the importance
of breast health awareness, early diagnosis and informed treatment decisions
Bhopal:
Marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mankind Pharma highlighted the
importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection and timely treatment
through its Pink October campaign. The initiative builds on the
company’s #1 Million Lives journey, which aims to make cancer awareness more
accessible and encourage individuals to take proactive steps towards their
health.
Breast cancer awareness is
important in encouraging timely medical consultation and improving
understanding of the disease. Potential warning signs may include a lump or
thickening in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, skin changes, nipple
changes or unusual discharge. While these changes may not necessarily indicate
cancer, they warrant medical evaluation. Clinical examination and mammography,
as appropriate to an individual's age and risk profile, can support early
detection.
“Cancer awareness must
extend beyond healthcare facilities and become an integral part of how people
approach their health. Through our #1 Million Lives initiative, we aim to make
reliable health information more accessible and encourage proactive healthcare
decisions. Pink October reinforces this commitment by highlighting breast
health awareness, early detection and timely medical consultation. We believe
sustained awareness efforts can empower individuals and families to make
informed decisions about their health,” said Atish Majumdar, Senior
President, Mankind Pharma.
Early diagnosis also helps
doctors determine an appropriate course of treatment. Diagnostic evaluation and
tumour profiling help identify the characteristics of breast cancer and guide
treatment decisions. HER2 testing, where indicated, helps determine the HER2
status of a tumour and informs decisions regarding appropriate targeted
therapies.
“Recognising unusual changes
in the breast and seeking medical advice without delay are important steps
towards timely diagnosis. Screening recommendations depend on factors such as
age and individual risk, making consultation with a qualified healthcare
professional essential. For patients diagnosed with breast cancer, diagnostic
assessments and biomarker testing, including HER2 testing where indicated, help
guide treatment decisions. Greater awareness can encourage timely evaluation
and help patients access appropriate care,” said Dr Srikant Tiwari, Consultant,
Medical Oncologist, Sagar Multispeciality Hospital
Launched in June 2026,
Mankind Pharma’s #1 Million Lives initiative has included the training of over
500 health workers, while 285 doctors pledged to help protect 1 million
families in July. Through Pink October, the company continues to strengthen its
focus on preventive oncology and encourage greater awareness of early detection
and timely care.
