Pune: In a significant step towards
redefining architectural education in India, MIT World Peace University
(MIT-WPU) has announced the launch of the Hafeez Contractor School of
Architecture, a prestigious new school established in honour of one of India's
most celebrated architects, and Padma Bhushan awardee, Ar. Hafeez Contractor.
Widely
regarded as one of the country's most influential architects, Hafeez Contractor
has transformed India's urban skyline through several iconic residential,
commercial, institutional and township projects spanning over four decades.
Recognised for his contemporary design philosophy, large-scale planning
expertise and enduring contribution to Indian architecture, his name has become
synonymous with excellence, innovation and visionary thinking.
Inspired
by this legacy, the school will offer students an industry-aligned,
future-focused learning ecosystem that combines architectural design excellence
with sustainability, technological innovation and hands-on practical
experience.
Its
flagship Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) programme is a five-year
professional degree aligned with the guidelines of the Council of Architecture
(CoA) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The studio-based curriculum
integrates architectural design, building sciences, digital technologies,
research, professional practice and sustainability.
Students
will benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced design
studios, climatology and surveying laboratories, material museums, digital
design facilities, and exposure to Building Information Modelling (BIM),
computational design and immersive technologies. The programme also offers
interdisciplinary learning opportunities, international design studios,
industry mentorship, live projects and mandatory internships, equipping
graduates with both technical expertise and professional competence.
Speaking
on the occasion, Dr Suman Devadula, Dean, School of Design said, "The
establishment of the Hafeez Contractor School of Architecture is a landmark
milestone for MIT-WPU. Hafeez Contractor's extraordinary contribution to Indian
architecture has inspired generations of architects. By associating his name
with our School, we aspire to create an ecosystem where innovation, creativity,
sustainability and practical learning converge. Our endeavour is to nurture
students to be architects designing iconic structures that are resilient,
inclusive and sustainable."
The
Hafeez Contractor School of Architecture aspires to emerge as a centre of
excellence, preparing future architects to create sustainable, people-centric
and globally relevant built environments. Admissions to the B.Arch.
programme are now open.
