Pune: The
purpose of education is not merely to earn a degree, secure a job or build a
successful career. Education must go beyond textbooks and classrooms to build
discipline, dedication and, most importantly, character. When we build
character, we build responsible citizens, and nation-building follows
naturally,” said Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu,
while addressing the graduating students at the 8th Convocation Ceremony of
MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune.
The
two-day convocation was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu; Justice Uday Lalit,
Former Chief Justice of India; Dr. Ashok Khemka, IAS (Retd.), Former
Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana; Prof. Dr. Satish K.
Tripathi, Honorary Chancellor, World Peace University Goa and President of
the University at Buffalo, USA; UNESCO Chair Holder Revered Prof. Dr.
Vishwanath D. Karad - Founder & Chief Patron, MAEER’s MIT Group of
Institutions & President, MIT World Peace University; Dr. Rahul V.
Karad, Managing Trustee & Executive President, MAEER’s MIT Group of
Institutions and Executive President, MIT World Peace University. Prof.
(Dr.) Raviraja N. Seetharam, Vice-Chancellor, MIT-WPU, were also present
among other dignitaries present on the occasion.
Highlighting
the role of young people in shaping India’s future, Shri Arlekar further said,
“Today’s Gen Z represents the real youth power of our country. The future of
India is in your hands, and your knowledge, skills, experience and expertise
must contribute to society and the nation. As India moves towards the vision of
Viksit Bharat 2047, every young person must ask themselves how they can
contribute to this transformation. If we dedicate our lives not only to
ourselves but also to the larger good of society and the country, that is when
education truly finds its purpose.”
The
8th Convocation Ceremony of MIT-WPU celebrated 7,806 graduating
students, including 17 PhD scholars, along with 345 medal winners-135
Gold, 105 Silver and 105 Bronze Medalists-for their academic excellence. The Founder
President Medal was awarded to Ms. Dhanashri Rajendra Mhase from the
School of Science and Environmental Studies. The ceremony brought together
university leadership, faculty, students, parents and distinguished guests,
marking a significant milestone while reaffirming MIT-WPU’s commitment to
education, innovation, leadership and world peace.
Justice
Uday Lalit, Former Chief Justice of India, who was the chief guest for the
second day of convocation ceremony said: “Education is not merely the attainment of a degree; it
is a responsibility to society. As graduates of MIT-WPU, you are torchbearers
of an institution built on the transformative power of knowledge. Carry
integrity, honesty and excellence into whichever profession you choose, and use
your skills to create meaningful change. The nation and society look towards
you with hope. Go out into the world with confidence, meet every challenge
constructively, and make your university proud.”
Dr.
Ashok Khemka, IAS (Retd.), Former Additional Chief Secretary, Government of
Haryana, who were present as guest of honor said: “A degree marks not an end, but the
beginning of responsibility. As you step into a world shaped by technology,
competition and change, cultivate the courage to innovate, the creativity to
transform and the integrity to endure. Professional competence may help you
rise, but integrity enables you to hold your head high. Question assumptions,
learn from criticism, and make choices you can defend with honesty and
conscience. Let your success bring pride to your families and contribute
meaningfully to society.”
Prof.
Dr. Satish K. Tripathi, Honorary Chancellor, World Peace University Goa and
President of the University at Buffalo, USA, and Guest of Honor at the
convocation, said,
“Artificial intelligence is reshaping nearly every aspect of our lives, and
your generation must decide how it is used responsibly. As you step into a
rapidly changing world, stay ambitious but adaptable, learn from others and be
willing to take meaningful risks. Use your knowledge, creativity and expertise
with wisdom, ethical purpose and a commitment to advancing the public good.”
Dr.
Rahul V. Karad, Managing Trustee & Executive President, MAEER’s MIT Group
of Institutions, said,
“As you graduate today, your responsibility extends beyond securing jobs,
pursuing entrepreneurship or achieving personal success. As ambassadors of MIT
World Peace University, you must think about how you can contribute to society
and help shape the future of our country. In an era of artificial intelligence
and rapid technological transformation, the integration of science,
spirituality and human values is essential to building a more peaceful and
responsible world.”
